Notes on Fundamental Joy - Carmen Winant

€250.00

Notes on Fundamental Joy (seeking the elimination of oppression through the social and political transformation of the patriarchy that otherwise threatens to bury us)

One of our favorite books, this archive of photographs reworked by artist Carmen Winant sits between an artists’ project and a historical document, drawing from archival images of the Ovulars, a series of photography workshops held in various feminist & lesbian separatist communes of the early 80s across the Pacific Northwest. Published by printed Matter, the publication reveals a community of women/womyn in their collective embrace of the ‘back to the land’ movement and is a breath of fresh air to look at, for anyone interested in alternative lifestyles. Iconic feminist figures and photographers such as JEB, Clytia Fuller, Tee Corinne, Ruth Mountaingrove, Katie Niles, Carol Osmer, Honey Lee Cottrell also appear all over the photographs.

Released in 2019, the book is sold-out and extremely hard to come by. A gem.

Printed Matter, 2019
1st edition, English
Good condition, slight signs of wear on cover

Started out of a Paris apartment in 2020, Sasori Books is an online bookshop dedicated to hard-to-find, contemporary and obscure books on art, photography, and underground litterature. Occasionally, we also throw pop-ups in Paris hotel bedrooms and makeshift secret bars.
